Stop Hwy 11 Restrictions

The Issue

In recent months, the Pickens County Council has began to formulate a plan to place restrictions on the allowable land use for properties along Highway 11 in Pickens County SC. The plan that has been discussed is to include all property within the area up to 1000 feet each way from the centerline of the road. The restrictions that are being proposed include a prohibition on subdivisions, multi home lots, manufacturing, and commercial buildings.  The residents of the county are being told that the plan restrictions are to protect the view scapes of the area.  The natural beauty of the area is no doubt amazing and something that should be treasured.  However, an attempt to restrict or remove property rights from the people who have lived in the area for years or have just moved here and own land along the Highway is not desired and against the will of the undersigned.  Pickens County has already adopted a Uniform Development Standards Ordinance that covers many of the aspects the proponents of the plan (that violates residents property rights) wish to put in place.  The signers of this petition wish to maintain and defend their personal property rights from a local government that wishes to intrude on the use of their private land even more than is already happening. The residents of the Highway 11 area own the land and wish to decide for themselves what it is used for. STOP THE RESTRICTIONS ON PROPERTY RIGHTS ALONG HIGHWAY 11.
