Stop Hospitals From Denying Women's Reproductive Choices

Stop Hospitals From Denying Women's Reproductive Choices
The Issue
Stop Medical Double Standards: Women’s Reproductive Choices Matter Too
Every day, women walk into hospitals and medical offices seeking a permanent form of birth control through tubal ligation, only to be told they are “too young,” “might change their mind,” or need permission from a spouse they may not even have.
Meanwhile, men seeking vasectomies are often granted the same autonomy over their reproductive decisions without being subjected to the same scrutiny, delays, or paternalistic barriers.
Why?
Why are women trusted to carry pregnancies, give birth, and raise children, but not trusted to decide they do not want to have children at all?
A woman’s body should not be governed by a stranger’s opinion about her future. Doctors are meant to provide information, explain risks, and ensure informed consent—not act as gatekeepers to personal reproductive choices.
This issue affects countless women:
Women with medical conditions that make pregnancy dangerous.
Women who have known for years that they do not want children.
Women who already have children and do not wish to have more.
Women who simply want the same bodily autonomy routinely afforded to men.
No adult should be denied a legal medical procedure because someone else believes they know what’s best for their future.
We are calling on hospitals, healthcare systems, and policymakers to:
End discriminatory policies that create unnecessary barriers to tubal ligation.
Establish equal standards for men and women seeking permanent sterilization procedures.
Require transparency regarding approval and denial practices.
Respect informed consent and bodily autonomy regardless of gender, marital status, or parental status.
This is not about politics.
This is about fairness.
This is about equality.
This is about trusting women to make decisions about their own bodies.
If a man can decide he does not want children, a woman deserves that same respect.
Sign this petition and help us send a clear message: Women’s reproductive choices are not up for debate.
Our bodies. Our futures. Our decision.
