The Borough announced today the agenda for the regular meeting of the Mayor and Council for Tuesday, September 20, 2022. This includes agenda Item 12b, Resolution No. 9-22-225, and Ordinance No 2022-2061 for turning South 3rd Avenue into a Pedestrian Mall, from Rt.27 and extending 150’ South.

One of the reasons the Borough is using to justify this is found in the 6th "Whereas" of the ordinance:
continued unlimited use of So. 3rd Avenue or part thereof by private vehicles may constitute a hazard to the health and safety of pedestrians;
Notice the words "may constitute". And according to the Mayor and Council, apparently every other roadway in Highland Park is safe for vehicles, but for some unspecified reason, South 3rd Avenue is not.
According to the agenda, the ordinance will be introduced and passed on September 20, and up for final passage on October 19 after a public hearing.
There is still time to make your opposition known to the Mayor & Council, though they seem undaunted by the public opposition. Attend the meeting and contact them directly.
This Petition has grown and now has 307 signatures, thank you for supporting it.
