The Issue

I grew up in this area. Jared Garden Center was more than just a garden center; it was a cherished community staple, a beautiful outdoor sanctuary that brought joy and enrichment to Littleton, CO. With its local charm and lush greenery, it provided a space where neighbors could gather, connect, and enjoy nature. The proposal to replace this beloved site with a high-density, renters-only gated community of small lot single-family homes and townhouses is not just an abrupt change in landscape, but a disrespect to our community's values and environment.

Such developments threaten to erase the character and outdoor significance of our neighborhood. The lack of street parking will create congestion and inconvenience for residents and visitors, while the high-density nature goes against the fabric of our tight-knit community, prioritizing profit over people.

Environmental concerns also loom large. The transformation from a green space to a concrete-heavy development disrupts local ecosystems, contributing to increased pollution and reducing the valuable green spaces that combat urban heat. Plus, there are major concerns regarding the flood zones and water detention changes.

It's crucial for city planners and developers to consider the long-term impacts of this project on both the community and the environment. We urge the Littleton planning commission to reconsider this plan and explore alternatives that respect the local heritage, maintain green spaces, and meet the community's needs without imposing a gated, high-density framework.

Your voice matters in protecting the identity and environment of Littleton. Please sign this petition to halt this development and ensure that any future projects reflect the community's wishes and preserve our cherished landscapes.
