Living under the noisy, congested flight paths of Heathrow Airport is becoming unbearable, and for residents like me, this is our reality. Our mornings are greeted not by the gentle rustling of leaves or the serene chirping of birds but by the relentless roar of aircraft. Many mornings at 5 am, I'm jolted awake by the continuous flights, which become especially overwhelming in the summer months when planes roar overhead every 45 seconds. Such constant disturbance takes a toll on mental health and increases anxiety, something no community should have to endure.

The proposed third runway at Heathrow will only exacerbate this dire situation. The government plans to invest a staggering £49 billion in this runway. This colossal amount would be better spent on ventures that truly benefit society, like housing, improving public infrastructure, and addressing the ever-growing cost of living crisis. Instead of investing further in pollution and disruption, we should focus on strengthening our communities and supporting individuals.

Air and noise pollution are already significant issues for those living beneath flight paths. The proposed expansion threatens to escalate these problems, degrading air quality and plunging our neighbourhoods into even more intolerable levels of noise. This scenario is detrimental not just to our physical health but also to our quality of life.

In the short term, policy-makers should be urged to explore alternative flight paths to distribute the noise and pollution more evenly and to minimise impact on heavily affected areas. We need to protect our homes, our health, and our mental wellbeing.
