I am one among the countless individuals affected by the monopolization of our medical fields by multi-billion dollar health insurance companies. United Healthcare, with Optum and several other medical groups, is dictating what our doctors can and cannot do. This not only undermines the expertise of our healthcare professionals but also jeopardizes patient care.

Doctors are walking out due to this interference in their practice, and replacements are not being provided promptly. This situation is particularly alarming for those covered by Medicare and other insurance companies as it directly impacts their access to quality healthcare.

According to a study published in Health Affairs, consolidation in the health care industry leads to higher prices for consumers without any significant improvement in quality (Health Affairs, 2012). Furthermore, a report from the American Medical Association revealed that in most metropolitan areas across America, one insurer held at least a 30% market share (AMA, 2019), indicating an unhealthy concentration of power.

We cannot stand idle while these corporations continue to erode our healthcare system for profit. It's time we demand transparency and fairness from these organizations that hold such immense influence over our health services. We urge regulatory bodies to take immediate action against this monopolistic behavior that threatens patient care nationwide.
