All of California will be affected by the proposed budget cuts to youth mental health programs in California. These cuts, proposed by Governor Newsom, threaten evidence-based interventions for prevention, stigma reduction, and community-based programs that are essential for improving youth mental health and long-term health outcomes. 

Decades of inadequate funding for mental health services have already led to devastating outcomes in our state. We've seen an increase in suicides, substance use disorders, incarceration rates and homelessness - all of which cost the state billions every year. The proposed budget cuts will only deepen these disparities within California’s diverse communities.

Investing in our youth is investing in the future of California. Prevention programs reduce the burden on our already overwhelmed mental health system, as well as reducing youth suicides and overdoses.

We cannot afford to lose more lives due to a lack of preventative measures. We must urge Governor Newsom to reconsider these damaging budget cuts and instead prioritize funding for vital youth mental health programs and services.
