Stop government from mandating ethanol-blended fuel
Stop government from mandating ethanol-blended fuel
The Issue
In recent moves, the government has started implementing policies that mandate the use of ethanol-blended fuels like E20, E30, E85, and E100 for petrol, and ISO 15 for diesel, across the board. While this initiative is aimed at reducing carbon emissions and moving towards greener energy sources, it fails to take into account the devastating impact on a significant segment of vehicle owners and consumers.
Many vehicles manufactured before 2023 are not equipped to handle ethanol-blended fuels. Ethanol, being a less efficient fuel compared to pure gasoline or diesel, increases fuel consumption, thereby causing vehicle owners to bear increased fuel costs. Furthermore, the incompatibility of older vehicles with these blends can result in mechanical issues such as damaged fuel systems and engine components, ultimately leading to costly repairs or, worse, the premature scrapping of otherwise functional vehicles.
This policy not only imposes an unfair economic burden on the owners of older vehicles but also disregards their right to choose the type of fuel they wish to use. In a democratic society, forcing consumers to switch to a fuel type that could potentially damage their property has serious ethical implications and undermines consumer rights.
We propose that the government should provide exemptions for older vehicles not designed to use ethanol-blended fuels and offer subsidies or incentives for consumers to upgrade their vehicles to be compatible with eco-friendly fuels. Additionally, a comprehensive educational campaign highlighting both the benefits and potential drawbacks of ethanol-blended fuels should be implemented to ensure informed consumer choice.
We urge citizens to come together and call on the government to reconsider and adjust this policy, ensuring that it not only supports environmental goals but also protects consumer rights and takes into account the practical realities faced by vehicle owners.
Sign this petition to demand fair and informed policymaking, balancing environmental benefits with the needs and rights of all vehicle owners.
