Rural Morgan County could be reshaped by a massive tech project, and the community had almost no say in the deal.

AES Indiana has committed close to $1.3 billion to power projects tied to a 390-megawatt Google data center near Monrovia, including a $73.8 million transmission line with no confirmed route.

More than three dozen landowners have already shown up to a hearing to fight it, worried AES could use eminent domain to take pieces of their farms. 

Ratepayer advocates, including the Citizens Action Coalition, say Google should cover the full cost of that line instead of leaning on a pledge utilities made to protect regular customers. AES says the line will help the whole grid, but no one outside the company knows where it will go or whose land it will cross.

Monrovia families deserve better than a corporate deal decided without them. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission can reject or add conditions to this deal, and Google and AES Indiana can still choose a different path. Sign the petition to stop the Monrovia data center deal before more farmland is lost and ratepayers foot the bill.
