The Issue

As a fervent lover of all things wild and free, I have constantly been concerned about how global warming is impacting wildlife. Climate change affects polar bears, who are losing their icy homes due to the melting ice caps. Birds are migrating early or not at all, causing a disturbance in local ecosystems. Heat waves directly cause death in species not equipped to handle such temperatures.

Swift and drastic changes in our climate are endangering the very existence of the countless species who call our planet home. The effects are impossible to ignore. According to the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, surface temperatures are set to rise over the 21st century under all assessed emission scenarios. It is likely that heat waves will occur more often and last longer, and that extreme precipitation events will become more frequent (Climate Change 2014 Synthesis Report). We are crossing thresholds that cannot be undone.

The beauty and diversity of our wildlife are at stake, and we cannot sit while this happens. The urgency to act is now. With each passing day, the effects of global warming are plastered for us to see, with wildlife being the most vulnerable recipients.

Each signature on this petition brings us closer to the possibility of change, of giving our animals, our birds, our sea creatures the chance to survive and thrive, just as nature intended. The Earth is their home, as much as it is ours. Join me in making a stand against global warming to protect the wildlife we all love.
