I am personally affected by the devastating impact of gang violence. It destroys lives, kills people, threatens our safety, and inflicts harm on our society. This is a plea to address this issue head-on and find ways to prevent it while improving the lives of our young people.

Gang violence is not just a local problem; it's a national crisis. According to the National Gang Center, an estimated 33,000 violent street gangs, motorcycle gangs, and prison gangs with about 1.4 million members are criminally active in the U.S today (National Gang Center Annual Report). These numbers are staggering and show that urgent action is needed.

We need to focus on prevention strategies such as community programs aimed at giving young people alternatives to joining gangs. We also need more resources for law enforcement agencies to tackle this issue effectively.
