Stop For-Profit Companies from Monopolizing Public Camping Sites in Florida

The Issue

I am a passionate camper and a proud resident of Florida. Like many others, I have always cherished the opportunity to camp in our state's beautiful parks. Our tropical climate, predictable weather patterns, and diverse natural habitats make camping an enjoyable pastime for many Floridians. However, this beloved activity is under threat.

Private for-profit glamping companies are increasingly taking over camping sites at our State, County, and National Parks. These companies reserve multiple sites permanently for their operations, making them unavailable to the public who fund these parks through their taxes.

The impact is significant. When 6 or more sites are reserved exclusively for glamping purposes by these companies, it substantially hinders access for regular campers like us who simply want to enjoy what nature has to offer without the luxury price tag attached.

Florida is home to numerous resorts that already offer glamping experiences without encroaching on public lands meant for all citizens' enjoyment. It's crucial that we protect our right to access these spaces freely without being outpriced by commercial interests.

We need your help in urging the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) - which oversees our state parks - as well as other relevant authorities managing County and National Parks within Florida's borders - to prohibit private profit-driven glamping companies from reserving long-term spots at public camping sites.

By signing this petition, you're standing up not just for yourself but also future generations of Floridians who deserve equal access to enjoy our state’s natural beauty through camping experiences free from commercial monopolization. Please sign today!
