Every year 500,000,000 tons of factory farm animal feces are put into our water system. Unlike human waste, this waste goes untreated in sewage plants. This causes everything from algal blooms to ammonia poisoning.

Simply put, this is the most serious water related environmental problem today. Livestock in the United States produce 130 times the waste of the entire human population of our nation - accounting for 72% of the pollution in rivers and 56% of the pollution in lakes. Because the 500 million tons of manure isn't treated, the threat is even more serious. Hog manure, for example, has up to one hundred times more concentrated pathogens than human waste. This not only harms our drinking water, but destroys the surrounding ecosystem. 

This problem is already serious enough. The majority of water pollution in the United States is from factory farms. Don't let it get worse. Tell the EPA to stop factory farms from polluting our water systems with manure.
