The Issue

Petition to Meta Platforms and Facebook

Every day, millions of people scroll through Facebook expecting to connect with friends, family, and community—not to be confronted with graphic images and videos of animals suffering.
Yet increasingly, users are being exposed to disturbing content showing animals in extreme distress—caught in traps, struggling for long periods, or being subjected to visibly inhumane treatment. These posts are often shared publicly, without warning, and can be deeply upsetting to viewers of all ages.
This is not okay—and it’s not what most people want to see.

❗ What This Petition Is (and Is NOT)

This petition is NOT targeting ethical hunters.

This is about graphic, sensationalized content that shows animals suffering and is shared for views, reactions, or shock value.

The vast majority of people do not want to see:

Animals caught in leg-hold traps, struggling in distress

Rodents or wildlife suffering in traps

Graphic videos of animals being shot, beaten, or otherwise harmed

Any content that shows prolonged suffering or inhumane treatment

There is a clear difference between education and exploitation of suffering, and that line is being crossed.

🛑 Why This Matters

It exposes children and sensitive viewers to disturbing content

It normalizes and desensitizes people to animal suffering

It allows harmful content to spread widely through algorithms

It undermines the values of compassion and responsible wildlife management

Facebook has the tools and responsibility to do better.

✅ What We Are Asking Facebook To Do

We call on Facebook to:

Enforce stricter policies on graphic animal cruelty content

Remove or restrict posts showing visible suffering or inhumane treatment

Require strong content warnings where appropriate

Stop promoting this content through its algorithm

Improve reporting tools and response times for animal cruelty

💬 A Platform for People—Not Suffering

Facebook is one of the largest platforms in the world. With that reach comes responsibility.

Users should not have to worry about encountering graphic animal suffering while simply scrolling their feed.

It’s time to draw a line.
