Stop excluding Pupils from yard time etc over small stud earrings at Glyn Gaer Primary
The Issue
The Issue:
For over 25 years, students at Glyn-Gaer Primary School pupils have been allowed to wear small stud earrings safely and without any disruption to their learning. Recently, the school changed this long-standing policy without consulting parents. Now, children who wear small studs are being banned from yard time, school sports day, and even school trips.
Why This Matters:
While we understand the need for safety during physical education (PE) lessons, completely isolating children from social time, outdoor play, and educational trips is an unfair and extreme punishment for a minor uniform issue. Taking away a child's playtime and trips harms their well-being and friendships.
Furthermore, parents were given no warning or chance to give feedback on a rule that has worked perfectly for a quarter of a century.
Our Request:
We, the undersigned parents and community members, ask the Headteacher and Governing Body to:
Stop the extreme punishments: Immediately stop excluding children from yard time, sports days, and school trips over small stud earrings.
Allow a safe compromise: Allow children to wear small studs during normal school days, and use one of the following safe options for PE:
Parents sign a safety disclaimer form allowing their child to wear studs at their own risk, or tape them over with medical tape.
Children remove the studs just on PE days, rather than being banned from wearing them entirely.
Hold a proper consultation: Pause this new rule until parents have been properly consulted and our voices have been heard.
Please sign this petition to help protect our children's playtime, school trips, and well-being. Together, we can show the school that our community stands for fairness and communication. Your signature makes a huge difference!
