We, the undersigned, are calling for an independent investigation into the police-involved shooting that occurred on January 17, 2025, in Englewood, Florida. This incident, captured on body camera footage, raises serious concerns about the excessive use of force by law enforcement officers.

 

Incident Overview:

 

The individual, Shawn Ravert, was reportedly walking towards officers while holding a machete. Despite being at least 40 yards away from the officers, 17 shots were fired, leading to Mr. Ravert’s death. This response appears disproportionate, especially considering the distance and the possibility of de-escalation before lethal force was used.

We believe the use of lethal force in this situation may have been excessive, and it is crucial that:
