Stop Eversource from spraying herbicides along power lines on Cape Cod & Martha's Vineyard
The Issue
As a concerned citizen of Cape Cod, I join all 15 Cape town boards of Selectmen who have said they don't want herbicide application used to control vegetation along power lines throughout Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard this year and beyond.
We live above the only aquifer that provides clean drinking water to every municipal and private well and feeds all lakes and ponds on Cape Cod.
We ask Eversource to go back to mechanical means (cutting, pruning, and mowing) to control vegetation, since newer research demonstrates that these chemicals are more toxic to our environment and our health than previously thought. One of them, RoundUp, has been designated a probable human carcinogen by the World Health Organization. Eversource needs to adapt to the latest scientific information and respect the well-founded concerns of its customers in Barnstable and Dukes counties.
To protect our environment, our health, our drinking water, and our livelihoods, Eversource must immediately stop using herbicides to control vegetation throughout power lines rights-of-way passages on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard.
