Stop Equity Firms from Overpricing Veterinary Clinics and Fleecing Customers

The Issue

My beloved cat Nuala recently suffered an asthma attack. The cost for treatment was over $5000, a price that is simply unaffordable for many pet owners, including me. This is not an isolated incident but a growing trend across the nation as equity firms acquire veterinary clinics, resulting in astronomical increases in prices for pet health care.

These firms are prioritizing profit over the well-being of our pets. According to the American Pet Products Association, Americans spent $29.3 billion on veterinary care and product sales in 2019 alone (APPA). This figure has been steadily rising year after year, largely due to these acquisitions by equity firms which have led to inflated pricing structures.

Our pets are members of our families and deserve access to affordable healthcare just like we do. We must urge lawmakers and regulatory bodies to investigate these practices and implement regulations that prevent such exploitative pricing tactics in the veterinary industry.

Price gouging in an emergency is illegal. This should include medical emergencies for humans AND animals.

Please sign this petition if you believe that no pet owner should have to choose between their financial stability and their pet's health due to exorbitant costs imposed by profit-driven equity firms.
