Stop Eliminating Tennis Courts & Build More Tennis Courts. Save Tennis Now.
The Issue
Our growing and popular Tennis community in Fort Lauderdale is facing a growing shortage of public tennis courts.
In multiple locations~ such as Plantation, Davis, Weston and Indian Trace Middle School + everywhere in Broward County~ tennis courts have been removed or repurposed, often converted into pickleball courts or expanded basketball courts.
Facilities that once hosted four to eight tennis courts now offer only one or two, leaving tennis players without adequate access to public playing space.
This removal of tennis courts has led to overcrowding, long wait times, and situations where players are turned away because there are simply not enough courts available.
Tennis continues to grow in popularity, yet the number of courts available to the public is shrinking. We believe this is a disservice to current players, future players, and the sport itself. Tennis is a lifelong, accessible, healthy activity that deserves proper representation in our communities.
We are calling on our city leaders, parks departments, and school boards to:
• Build new public tennis courts in our community
• Restore tennis courts that were recently removed or converted
• Protect existing tennis courts from further reduction
• Develop a long-term plan to meet the rising demand for tennis
• Ensure fair and balanced space allocation between tennis, pickleball, and other sports
By signing this petition, you are standing with us in support of expanding access to tennis and investing in facilities that benefit athletes, youth, and families across our community.
Together, we can make sure tennis has a future here.
