STOP Eharmony's Sneaky, Hidden Auto Renewal Fees
The Issue
Stop EHarmony (EH) from hiding sneaky "automated" renewals. I WANT MY $718.80 they took, back in Oct. 2020. I'd stopped using their service, & notified them, yet they snuck this amped up huge charge in. I'd paid $143 previously total for 6 months-but a few months in, they reduced the service offered, so it was no longer useful for me. ***I never agreed to another 143, let alone 718.
The U.S. HQ in California so far refused a refund the past year & a half. EH is still doing what they lost a massive $2 Million + 2018 lawsuit for: dishonest Auto Renew tricks. Nearly 1,000 BBB ANNUAL complaints the past 3 years alone, & a low 1/5 star Customer rating there, are evidence.
⦁ Tho I phoned EH months before my 6 months subscription'd end, stating I could no longer use the service*** (because they'd suddenly removed a necessary, key feature: people searches via your faith, vs. agnostic etc.)-still in October 2020 they belatedly** snuck a bloated "Auto" renewal in. I never chose to Renew, nor Auto Renew.
⦁ EH skyrocketed this from the $143 total I'd previously paid for 6 months, to a whopping $718.80-& changed it to 12 months-AND **not on the day the subscription ended, but 4 days later. AFTER I'd persued a refund multiple times, they tried to say I'd "CHECKED" (checkmarked) an Auto Renew box--NO! They did that.
⦁ They further HID their fake renewal by NOT Emailing me a receipt -unlike my 2 prior 6 month subscriptions. My credit card posts the same day-not 4 days later, unlike what EH only recently attempted to claim. A legit renewal would occur the same day the prior one expired & include a receipt.
⦁ My credit card co. removed the $718.80 when EH wouldn't, but then re-charged me/Said too much time'd passed UNLESS I have a screen-shot showing I'd turned off EH's (sneaky) renewal feature. Tho it was off, I didn't expect fraud so had no photo; did not know EH relies on a formerly good reputation, from before they were sold to an overseas company...Tho their online HQ address states California.
⦁ In a recent rebuttal to me & the AG, EH "re-printed" their old automated Email-but with their sneaky subnotes appearing readable/in a MUCH larger font, than what they'd actually Emailed me in Oct 2020. The original subnotes, hidden in lengthy sub paragraphs, can only be seen by scrolling down online to another page to read, & then by enlarging it. Nor did this Email stand out among other automated EH Emails I received that week; I found it in 2021 w/ much searching among multiple ads/auto Emails they sent me OVER 6 months prior to the huge charge.) But-it doesn't even apply, as I did NOT mark an Auto renewal box as EH now claims in writing.
⦁ Instead of an Email receipt in Oct. 2020 which would've tipped me off to my $718 being taken, I received multiple automated Emails, INCLUDING ADS INVITING ME TO RETURN AS A CUSTOMER.
⦁ In my repeated attempts to ask EH to return my $$, they eventually replied with impersonal form letters (& months after I tried filing a complaint thru the AG's office,) with EH pretending to care and "gush" over me/their "customer." I've seen similar lies on some of their BBB complaints.
⦁ After countless attempts to get EH to return my hard earned money, 2 years later they suddenly tried saying that the (supposed auto renew took my credit card several days to process-NO, it goes thru the same day.
⦁ Some of EH's tactics include hiding a little known secret on the internet-that to 'not' auto-renew, you must notify them in writing--! Tho BBB complaints show EH cheats on that/doesn't honor it too sometimes. & yet other fine print elsewhere says to 'turn off' auto renew. Yet, EH recently tried to say I CHECKED the auto renew box.
EH should be re-named E-Harmful.
