Stop Driving Instructors From Bulk-Booking and Reselling UK Driving Tests

Stop Driving Instructors From Bulk-Booking and Reselling UK Driving Tests
The Issue
I’ve been trying to book a driving test for months. I check the DVSA website constantly, use cancellation apps, and even stay up at night refreshing the page. But every time a test appears, it’s gone within seconds. It’s obvious that instructors and third-party companies are bulk-booking the available slots and then reselling them at much higher prices.
Some of these tests are being sold for over £200 when the actual cost is £62. It’s unfair and feels like exploitation. People like me are being cheated, left stranded without the opportunity to take our tests because the very system meant to help us is being manipulated for profit.
Driving Instructors in the UK are exploiting their ability to book tests en masse, taking advantage of the backlog that the DVSA has struggled with for years. The DVSA continues to blame COVID-19 for their inefficiencies, but the truth is the crisis has long moved past, and the issues persist because of systemic mismanagement.
This unfair practice affects all learner drivers who are left waiting endlessly while those who can afford to, pay exorbitant prices to get a test slot. The DVSA needs to revoke instructors' ability to book tests to restore fairness and make tests accessible to everyone, not just those who can pay premium prices to bypass the queue.
It's imperative that the DVSA takes immediate action to prevent this exploitative behavior. By revoking driving instructors' booking privileges, the DVSA can ensure that test bookings are regulated fairly and that everyone has an equal chance to secure a test slot at a fair price. Updating the system to limit the number of tests an account can book in a set period or creating a direct application process for learners could also mitigate these issues.
We need your support to bring this issue to light and urge the DVSA to take decisive action. Please sign this petition to ensure a fair and accessible driving test booking system for all learners in the UK.
