Stop Dog Daddy (Augusto DeOliveira) from Bringing Abusive Dog Training Methods to Chicago

The Issue

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the upcoming appearance of Augusto DeOliveira, known as “The Dog Daddy,” in Chicago to host dog training events July 24-26.

Mr. DeOliveira is a controversial figure whose dog handling methods have been widely criticized as abusive, forceful, and inhumane. Numerous videos and first-hand reports show him using harsh leash corrections, intimidation, and outdated dominance-based techniques that put dogs at serious risk of physical and psychological harm.

In addition, Mr. DeOliveira has no recognized professional dog training certifications and does not adhere to modern, science-based, humane standards for dog training and behavior modification.

His approach contradicts guidelines promoted by respected organizations such as the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), which strongly discourages aversive methods: https://www.avma.org/news/done-dog-daddy

Bans and Restrictions in Other Locations:

- British Columbia, Canada – His tour was stopped in 2023 after protests and venue cancellations.

- Portland, Oregon – In 2023, his seminar was canceled following community outcry and concerns about animal welfare.

- Multiple venues in California  - Several locations have refused to host him after learning about his methods.

- His Australian tour was cancelled following international backlash: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/oct/20/dog-daddy-trainer-augusto-deoliveira-youtube-star-australian-tour-cancelled

- His UK and Italy tours were also cut.

Chicago must not provide a platform for cruelty.

Allowing Mr. DeOliveira to hold events in Chicago sends a harmful message to our community about what is acceptable treatment of animals.

We call on city officials, animal welfare authorities, and venue managers to deny permits or bookings for his events, in order to protect dogs from fear, pain, and trauma.

Please sign this petition to show that Chicago cares about its animals and supports only humane, qualified, science-based dog trainers.

We further encourage dog guardians and the public to support only humane, qualified, evidence-based trainers who prioritize a dog’s welfare and emotional wellbeing.

Sign this petition to show that Chicago stands against animal abuse and will not tolerate inhumane treatment of dogs.
