Stop dissolution of Muskoka North Good Food Co-op
The Issue
Keep it up - let’s get 500!
Our Co-op has been a cornerstone in building a sustainable food system and fostering a thriving local food economy in Muskoka North for over a decade. As member-owners, we have poured our heart, soul, and resources into making this Co-op an embodiment of resilience and community spirit, especially during these unprecedented times of food insecurity. It pains us to see the Board of Directors planning to dissolve our beloved Co-operative by July 18, 2026, with a decisive vote scheduled on July 9, 2026, at the Co-op 6:45 PM - PLEASE BE THERE!
Despite our Co-op being a haven for more than 2000 member-owners, a "final" meeting has been slated with minimal communication from the Board. This decision has been made without ample member approval or adequate input, threatening to dismantle the hard work and dedication of our community.
In times when reliable access to food is critical, it's intolerable for a few to make such significant decisions without consulting the majority who depend on and advocate for this local entity. The lack of transparency and disregard for member voices is unacceptable.
We demand that the current board be held accountable, removed, and that the members actively working to save the co-op be appointed as a temporary replacement board— individuals with the sincere intention to preserve our Co-op, bridge gaps, and improve communication. We propose an urgent assembly where all member-owners will have a say in the future of our Co-op and participate actively in such a significant decision-making process. It is our right as a co-operative to take action.
PLEASE ATTEND THE MEETING AND TAKE ACTION - THIS IS CO-OPERATION IN ACTION
Furthermore, we urge an independent review through a complaints process to assess the intentions and actions of the current Board.
We need your support to stand against this dissolution. The time has come for us to step up, save our Co-op, and affirm our commitment to food security and local sustainability.
