Stop Disney's live action remakes and restore 20th century fox
The Issue
In 2019, Disney acquired FOX, a move that dramatically changed the landscape of entertainment. FOX, cherished for its imaginative storytelling and innovative productions, was absorbed and rebranded as 20th Century Studios. This acquisition also led to the unfortunate shutdown of Blue Sky Studios, a creative powerhouse behind beloved animations such as "Ice Age." As someone who has grown up with the magic of FOX, I find these changes deeply disheartening.
Disney's strategy involves creating live action remakes of their classic animated films. While these remakes may bring nostalgia to some, they often lack the charm and originality of their predecessors. Classic tales, originally full of imagination, seem to lose their essence in these adaptations. What's more, with Disney's pace to churn out these remakes, we risk saturating the industry with uninspired, repetitive content instead of new stories.
The power of storytelling lies in innovation, and the original FOX succeeded by delivering diverse narratives that pushed artistic boundaries. The dissolution of this identity stifles creativity, reducing the varied palette of stories that audiences deserve. Reinstating FOX would provide the opportunity for these distinct voices to flourish once more—Champions of original content and explorations into uncharted cinematographic territories.
Furthermore, with increased centralization in the media industry, Disney's monopoly over these cultural assets risks limiting competition and diversity of thought. Diverse studios mean diverse narratives, ensuring a spectrum of perspectives that enriches the cultural fabric.
To honor the legacy of one of Hollywood’s most iconic studios and to enable creativity to thrive, we urge Disney to:
1. Cease the production of further live action remakes which strip away the originality of timeless stories.
2. Transition 20th Century Studios back to its roots as 20th Century Fox.
3. Sell 20th Century Fox back to the FOX Corporation, allowing it to operate independently and capitalize on its unique storytelling strengths.
By taking these actions, Disney can show respect for creative diversity and storytelling legacies. We ask supporters who believe in the importance of diverse and innovative storytelling to join us in this movement. Let’s remind Disney of the value of originality and the richness it brings to our global cultural narrative.
Please sign this petition to stop Disney from further homogenizing film experiences and help bring back the creative brilliance of 20th Century Fox.
