Stop Discussing Gender Identity Issues without Parental Consent in Peabody Public Schools

The Issue

As a concerned parent, I believe that schools are meant to be a place for children to learn subjects that are associated with academics, not a place where they are exposed to discussions on gender identities without the participation or consent of their parents. My child returned home from Peabody Public School one day and shared bewildering information - their librarian was openly speaking about her gender identity with the students, asserting that she identifies as both a boy and a girl. Conversations about topics as sensitive as gender identity require caution, understanding, and agreement, and are not ones to be undertaken in the school setting without prior discussion and permission from parents.

This is not just a personal concern but it’s also affecting many other children in the Peabody public schools. The Harvard Graduate School of Education reports that conversations about gender identity can cause confusion and stress among children who are not yet mature enough to fully understand these complex issues (2019). It's time to uphold the primary duty of schools to provide an environment that is safe, inclusive, and beneficial for all students.

I urge the Peabody Public Schools to halt discussions about personal gender identities within the school environment until they have received permission from the parents and guardians of these children. Let's ensure that our children receive an education that aligns with our beliefs and values, and that school remains a place where they can focus on academic learning above all else. Please sign this petition and help us prioritize the educational integrity of these children.
