However, I've recently discovered that my commitment to managing these conditions is being met with unexpected financial penalties. My travel insurance premiums have increased solely because I am proactively looking after my health. This unfair practice feels like a punishment rather than the support and encouragement we deserve.

Around the world, countless individuals like me are committed to staying healthy. Despite making responsible choices such as taking prescribed medications to manage common health issues, we often face discrimination from insurance providers who hike premiums the moment they see a medical condition on record.

Statistics show that 45% of adults around the world have their blood pressure under control through medication, while about 37% manage their cholesterol in a similar manner. These numbers represent a significant portion of the population who are simply following doctors' orders to remain healthy. Yet, we find ourselves burdened with unjustified financial obstacles when it comes to traveling, a necessity, especially in our interconnected world.

Insurance companies often claim that individuals with pre-existing conditions pose a higher risk, therefore justifying the increased premiums. However, medical professionals attest that individuals who manage chronic conditions with medication often face fewer health emergencies than those who don’t actively manage their health.

What we seek is equitable treatment and fairness. Insurers should recognize the efforts of those of us actively managing our health conditions. Instead of penalizing us, they should reward our proactive approach to health by maintaining reasonable insurance premiums.

I am calling on insurance companies and policymakers to revise the policies and practices that unfairly charge higher premiums to people managing common health conditions. Let us stand together for fairness and health activism—to encourage responsible health management without the burden of increased travel costs.
