Stop development on Grove Farm site of importance for nature conservation
The Issue
Stop Development on Grove Farm Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC), Ealing, UK
Grove Farm is a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) in North Greenford, Ealing. We call on decision‑makers to deny the development Park View Place that would damage this protected wildlife habitat and public green space.
This unique green space provides a sanctuary for diverse wildlife and offers residents a much-needed escape from urban life. However, this biodiversity haven is under threat from proposed development which, if approved, will irrevocably damage its ecological balance and the natural beauty beloved by many.
The development plans on Grove Farm’s SINC are alarmingly close to being given the green light, after previous smaller applications were approved, prioritising short-term economic gains over environmental sustainability.
The proposal is made up of seven tower blocks ranging from six to sixteen stories in height. Four towers of 11 to 16 stories will directly affect Grove Farm Nature Reserve, three will be partially built on Grove Farm’s SINC, together these four towers will:
* cause the loss of 0.27 ha of broadleaf woodland - a priority habitat that should be protected,
* harm Coston’s Brook through the construction of concrete retaining walls,
* destroy one badger sett and force the temporary closure of a second,
* harm bats by introducing light pollution, reducing food sources, potential roosts and disturbing a commuting corridor connecting them to the wider landscape,
* permanently overshadowing a section of the SINC reducing biodiversity
Construction will result in the removal of 158 trees. Mature trees and native plants are crucial for controlling urban heat and improving air quality, thus providing natural services essential for community health and well-being.
There is a viable path forward that protects Grove Farm’s environmental integrity while still meeting developmental needs. We are calling on the developers to re-evaluate the plans for the four towers affecting Grove Farm to explore alternative options for development that ensure:
* No buildings are constructed within the SINC boundary nor within a 15m buffer zone,
* Heights are reduced near the nature reserve to no more 6 storeys (in keeping with the Local Plan),
* Mature trees and woodland embankments are retained,
* Watercourses and habitats are protected and enhanced
We’re asking for sensible, respectful development that coexists with one of Ealing’s beautiful wild spaces.
We urge residents and the wider community to come together in defence of Grove Farm, as a green space that benefits everyone.
Please join us in preserving Grove Farm’s SINC for the enjoyment and benefit of all. Sign this petition to send a clear message to the Ealing Council and the developers of Park View Place that development should not come at the cost of our natural environment.
By signing, you will also support the Friends of Grove Farm vision (https://www.friendsofgrovefarm.org/vision) to protect this Local Nature Reserve, enhance its habitats and keep it a welcoming green space where wildlife and the local community can flourish.
