Stop Destruction of 69 acres of Green Space in Bukit Jelutong to Build Luxury Homes

Stop Destruction of 69 acres of Green Space in Bukit Jelutong to Build Luxury Homes
The Issue
KEEP GREEN SPACE IN BUKIT JELUTONG
SAY NO TO LUXURY HOMES DEVELOPMENT IN BUKIT JELUTONG WHICH WILL DESTROY THIS GREEN SPACE FOREVER
PROTEST AGREEMENT BETWEEN SIME DARBY PROPERTIES and BUKIT JELUTONG RESIDENCE ASSOCIATION (BJRA) REGARDING DEMOLITION OF PADANG GOLF BUKIT JELUTONG WITHOUT RESIDENTS' COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT. WE WE ALSO PROTEST THE DEMOLITION ORDER ISSUED BY MAJLIS BANDARAYA SHAH ALAM (MBSA) WITHOUT ANY ENGAGEMENT WITH LOCAL RESIDENTS.
We strongly disagree with the proposed development for the following reasons:
Preservation of Green Spaces: The destruction of green spaces like Padang Golf Bukit Jelutong would result in the loss of a crucial environmental asset. These areas contribute to the ecological balance, providing habitat for local wildlife and aiding in carbon sequestration. Their preservation is vital for maintaining the environmental health of our community.
Community Well-being: The Padang Golf Bukit Jelutong and its associated facilities are cherished by residents of all ages. They offer a space for physical activity, relaxation, and socialization, contributing significantly to the mental and physical well-being of the community.
Opposition to Corporate Interests Over Community Needs: Sime Darby Properties has recently reported substantial gains, with its share price reaching RM1.16 — the highest in six years — following better-than-expected first-quarter earnings. This stock has climbed over 87% year-to-date, indicating robust financial health. Given this context, it is unjustifiable for the community to bear the cost of further enhancing Sime Darby's corporate performance at the expense of our cherished green spaces.
Inadequate Community Consultation: The settlement deal appears to have been made without adequate consultation with the Bukit Jelutong residents. Decisions of such magnitude should involve transparent processes with active community engagement, ensuring that the voices of the residents are heard and considered.
