Stop Denbigh School from using Sparx Maths
The Issue
My name is Leo, and I'm a student at Denbigh School in Milton Keynes. I am writing this petition out of sheer frustration and concern for my fellow peers and myself. For quite some time now, the maths curriculum has been heavily reliant on the Sparx Maths platform, and many of us find it overwhelmingly difficult and stressful.
Sparx Maths, while it may have innovative features, lacks the intuitive user experience and clear teaching methods that are vital for effective learning. It often leaves students feeling confused and disheartened, rather than supported and encouraged. This has become a significant issue for me, affecting both my academic performance and mental well-being.
Recent studies show that effective teaching platforms like Dr Frost Maths not only provide clearer explanations but also adapt to different learning styles, making them more beneficial for a diverse student body. According to the Education Endowment Foundation, students who engaged with teaching methodologies akin to those offered by Dr Frost have shown significant improvement in understanding and performance, compared to those using more rigid platforms like Sparx Maths.
We understand that choosing an educational platform is a decision that impacts more than just the immediate convenience. It's about equipping students with the tools they need to confidently tackle mathematical challenges. Therefore, we urge the decision-makers at Denbigh School to reconsider their contract with Sparx Maths and explore alternative solutions, such as Dr Frost Maths, which has been lauded for its comprehensive and user-friendly approach.
Changing the current system is paramount not only for relieving stress but also for nurturing a more effective learning environment. Let's aim for a curriculum that fosters understanding and interest in mathematics, rather than anxiety and frustration.
Please sign this petition to urge Denbigh School to make educational choices that truly benefit the students' learning experiences and overall well-being. Together, we can advocate for a change that positively impacts every student at our school.
