Stop delaying the replacements of the elevators at the Dearborn Homes!

The Issue

                                         Dearborn Elevator Push
Replace The Broken Elevators at The Dearborn Homes

To Mayor Brandon Johnson, CHA CEO Tracey Scott and HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge:

We, the undersigned -current residents of the Dearborn Homes demand that the Chicago Housing Authority and HUD replace the elevators at the Dearborn Homes.

Dearborn residents have stated that every elevator in each building has broken down 20 times or more within the last couple years and sometimes twice in 1 week leaving some residents without a working elevator for 2 months straight. There are 215 seniors living in the Dearborn Homes development. Majority of the seniors have underlying health issues. Some residents have missed Dr. appointments, can’t go grocery shopping, and even had to call the fire department for assistance up and down the stairs.

The elevators in the Dearborn Homes are 72 years old and should have been replaced when CHA renovated the housing units in 2009-2010. The residents should not continue to feel like hostages in their own homes.
