The Issue

Innocent people are languishing in prison due to endless delays and inefficiencies  as well as  corruption  in the UK judiciary and Court of Appeal. Peter Sullivan, a man who waited 38 arduous years to be exonerated, could have been freed a decade earlier if the system allowed for fair     and   corruption free  appeals. His story, though incredibly heart breaking, is not an isolated one. Others like Lucy Letby and Jeremy Bamber are also held in limbo, waiting for a chance to appeal their sentences both   have   been  denied   appeals despite  huge   holes    in their   cases and  obvious   proof  of  innocence .      Being   labelled  a monster    when   you  are   not  and spending  time  institutionalised  and punished  for    something   you    haven't    done  is  a    breach  of  human     rights.  In  Lucy's   case  the  appeal   the  judge   knew  the  trial  judge  and  was   at  school    with   Matt Hancock the  health sectary at  the  time  and  Ravi jayaram  a  witness  at the trial   who is  found to have  committed perjury .    Both  are   serving   whole   life  tariffs  as  cat  a  prisoners.

Even  in America    where  death row    is   a  punishment    if new evidence   comes   to light    you   get  a    appeal  where  as in uk   they  can   refuse    you leave  to even  to  appeal   you only get  two  appeals   so the only  chance  is  going   through  the ccrc   after  that      . The current system is plagued by unnecessary bureaucratic red tape and technical hurdles, leaving many, who may have been wrongfully convicted, without a  chance  and  feeling   alone  and  helpless. This not only piles more distress on individuals and families but erodes trust in our legal system  when  it  does   come   to  light . According to recent reports, court backlogs have increased by a staggering 23% over the past five years alone.

Our justice system should be a beacon of fairness and efficiency, not a labyrinth of delays. We must push for reforms that prioritize swifter appeals processing,   making   sure  the  appeal  judge  is  fair   and   willing     to  listen   to   the new  evidence   , not  just   refuse it  to   keep    the  status  qou   and     protect  people  in  power  or  who  are  responsible   for the  miscarriage  of   justice  safe  from  being   held  accountable  .ensuring justice is not only done but seen to be done. By addressing procedural inefficiencies and investing in adequate staffing and technology-driven solutions, we can bring about meaningful change. people   are  often   waiting   years    to   even  get  appeal  which is   then rejected  or who's conviction  upheld  without  good  reasons. People  are  also punished  for  having  evidence  that  was  around  at  the   time  of the initial trial  but wasn't   used   just  because  it's not  new  which isnt   fair .

This is a call to action for the government and judicial authorities to prevent further cases of prolonged injustice and introduce   reform   . Please sign this petition to demand immediate reform, fostering a judicial system that is timely, fair, and just.
