Right now, the Netherlands is at risk of losing what makes it so unique: its thriving arts and cultural landscape. The government is planning to cut over €1 billion in funding for education, research, and culture. These cuts will deeply affect programs that support artists, cultural institutions, and young researchers. They’ll also take opportunities away from students to learn about and engage with the arts in schools.

Without this funding, we could lose vital cultural programs, innovative research projects, and the creative spaces that make the Netherlands a leader in art and culture. These cuts won’t just hurt those working in the arts—they’ll hurt everyone who values creativity as a part of daily life.

At the same time, there’s growing concern about how artificial intelligence is being used in creative industries. While AI can be a helpful tool for artists, writers, and designers, it should never replace the unique creativity that only humans can bring. Cutting funding now will leave creatives with fewer opportunities to thrive, at the exact moment they’re facing this new challenge.

Nederland dreigt te verliezen wat ons zo uniek maakt: onze kunst- en cultuursector.

De regering is van plan meer dan €1 miljard te bezuinigen op onderwijs, onderzoek en cultuur. Deze bezuinigingen zullen initiatieven raken die kunstenaars, nieuwe talenten en culturele instellingen ondersteunen. Ook zal de bezuiniging leerlingen de kans ontnemen om op school kennis te maken met en zich te verdiepen in kunst en cultuur.

Zonder deze financiering kunnen we essentiële culturele programma’s, innovatieve onderzoeksprojecten en creatieve ruimtes verliezen – de plekken die Nederland een koploper maken op het gebied van kunst en cultuur! Deze bezuinigingen treffen niet alleen mensen die in de kunstsector werken, maar iedereen die creativiteit als een belangrijk onderdeel van het dagelijks leven ziet.

Tegelijkertijd is er groeiende bezorgdheid over het gebruik van kunstmatige intelligentie in creatieve sectoren. Hoewel AI een nuttig hulpmiddel kan zijn voor kunstenaars, schrijvers en ontwerpers, mag het nooit de unieke creativiteit vervangen die alleen mensen kunnen bieden. Juist nu we voor deze nieuwe uitdaging staan, zullen bezuinigingen creatievelingen nog minder kansen bieden om te groeien.
