Stop deforestation in Amazon- protect the people of the Yanomami tribe and Piraĥa

The Issue

The vast expanse of the Amazon rainforest is not just a wonder of nature, but also the home of the Yanomami tribe and Piraĥa people, whose lives are intricately intertwined with the land. For centuries, these indigenous communities have thrived within the forest, maintaining a harmonious balance with their environment. However, this peaceful existence is now under dire threat due to rampant deforestation fueled by illegal gold mining.

The urgency of the situation cannot be overstated. Illegal mining operations have ravaged the landscape, not only destroying vital forest areas but also posing significant health and social risks to the Yanomami and Piraĥa communities. Toxic substances such as mercury contaminate rivers and soil, leading to grave health issues. The pollution threatens not only the tribes' traditional ways of life – integral to their cultural identity and survival – but also the rich biodiversity of the region, which is a critical component of our global climate system.

Statistics provided by the Brazilian government and multiple independent organizations reveal that the areas within and around the Yanomami Indigenous Territory have witnessed a frightening increase in illegal mining activities, with over 20,000 illegal miners currently operating within these protected lands. This massive incursion has resulted in the destruction of over 10,000 hectares of lush, irreplaceable rainforest per year.

To mitigate this crisis, immediate and decisive action is imperative. We must amplify global awareness and pressure through robust international cooperation, urging the Brazilian government and international bodies to enforce stricter regulations and provide effective oversight to halt illegal gold mining activities. Additionally, there needs to be enhanced protection and support for the indigenous communities, allowing them to uphold their rights and sustain their livelihoods.

Together, we must advocate for sustainable practices that preserve the rainforest's integrity, safeguard the health and future of the Yanomami tribe and Piraĥa people, and contribute to the wellbeing of our planet.

Join us in demanding change - for the Amazon, its people, and the world.

Sign our petition today and be part of the movement to protect this invaluable natural and cultural heritage.

The tribes may be uncontested and isolated.. but their land is at stake .. protect the Amazon as climate change has increased temperatures upto 0.5 degrees Celsius and mass burning of forests and a hypertrophical condition...
