Stop Data Centers in Oklahoma
The Issue
I'm here today as a young Oklahoman, genuinely concerned about the future of our state and baffled by the apparent disregard for our environment. Recently, I reached out to our governor's office to ask a simple question: What benefits do these new data centers bring to Oklahoma? The response was chillingly inadequate. After a five-minute hold, they couldn't point out a single advantage. That's when I realized, if they can’t even answer that, perhaps there aren’t any real benefits at all.
These data centers come with a heavy cost. By 2030, they will consume 6.6 metric tons of water and produce 5.5 metric tons of toxic waste, on top of requiring energy equal to the size of Japan—an environmental disaster waiting to unfold. This impacts not just the climate, but our agriculture too, raising local temperatures and endangering our livestock. This isn't just about numbers; it directly threatens our way of life, our heritage, and our land.
It's time to ask yourself if these centers are in Oklahoma's best interest, or if they serve other interests. Are we really prepared to sacrifice our environment for potential short-term gains? We deserve transparency and accountability from our leaders, and right now, that's lacking.
We demand a halt to the harmful data center projects that place Oklahoma's natural beauty and our communities at risk. Our future should not be compromised for empty promises and financial incentives that don't take into account the true cost.
Join me in standing up for Oklahoma. By signing this petition, we can send a strong message to Governor Stitt that we value our environment, our health, and our future above all else. Let's protect Oklahoma together.
