The Issue

In Buckeye, Arizona, our landscape is rapidly changing, and not for the better. Once a thriving farmland, supporting both agriculture and local wildlife, our home is being overtaken by large data centers. These facilities are consuming vast amounts of our precious water resources and converting fertile land into barren concrete stretches. They stand as symbols of unchecked industrialization, disrupting the very fabric of our community and harming our environment.

The conversion of farmland into data centers has led to a significant loss of resources reserved for agricultural use, crippling our ability to support local food production. This has forced many traditional farms out of operation, threatening the livelihoods of families who have cultivated this land for generations. Moreover, these centers require enormous amounts of water for cooling, straining our already limited water supply, especially critical during Arizona's frequent drought conditions.

Our local wildlife, previously flourishing in this region, is now facing dire circumstances. As water becomes scarce, so does the natural habitat that supports a diverse array of species. Migratory birds and native wildlife are losing their homes, and their food sources are dwindling. This ecological imbalance not only affects animals but also disrupts our community's connection to nature.

Additionally, the rampant expansion of these centers contributes to increased traffic congestion as they necessitate the building of housing for new workers, which in turn stresses our infrastructure. Roads in and out of Buckeye once flowed smoothly, but now they are congested, and our neighborhoods are less peaceful as a result. The quality of life in Buckeye is declining, and our city is sacrificing its agricultural roots for industrial sprawl.

I am eleven years old, and I have grown up watching the open fields, the wildlife, and the quiet beauty of Buckeye. This town is my home, and this world is my generation's future. When I look ahead, I want a future that preserves our natural resources and honors our farming roots—not one paved over by massive, wasteful data centers that drain our water and leave concrete in place of nature. We deserve a hometown that protects what makes it special.

We can no longer remain silent and watch our community and environment suffer. It's time to take action to stop further expansion of data centers in our area. By signing this petition, we urge local officials to prioritize sustainable development and implement policies that protect our precious resources—ensuring that Buckeye remains a vibrant and sustainable community for generations to come.

Support our call for change, for the restoration of our farmland, the preservation of our wildlife, and the wellbeing of the Buckeye community. Please sign this petition today to demand a reassessment of land use priorities and protect the future of our city.
