The Issue

For those of us living in China Grove, navigating through our streets and roads has become an increasingly daunting task over the past five years. The decision to add medians at the intersection of Main St near Circle K has further exacerbated our traffic woes. Residents, like us, simply trying to leave our driveways or access local businesses like the animal hospital, find ourselves forced into a one-way pattern that is both inconvenient and hazardous. It feels like the area is a maze, and it’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt due to the prevalent speeding and narrow escape routes.

Traffic congestion has steadily worsened, but what truly alarms us are the new road projects that seem to be popping up faster than we can adjust to them. One of the most concerning developments is the series of roundabouts extending from the bridge at I-85 all the way to Carson High School. These roundabouts were supposed to mitigate traffic issues, but instead, they have turned into veritable accident zones, creating more chaos and confusion than before. Now, with the impending construction of yet another roundabout to support a new subdivision down the road, we can only ask: when does this madness end?

The current road infrastructure developments do not reflect the needs or safety of our community. Our neighborhood is being sacrificed for poorly thought-out projects that make day-to-day travel a challenge and a constant risk. It feels like our voices have been ignored, as if our community's safety and daily convenience have been placed on the back burner in favor of expedited development.

We urge China Grove officials to reconsider these plans and engage with the community to find more effective and safer solutions to our traffic problems. We need a comprehensive assessment of these new traffic systems to ensure they genuinely meet our needs without compromising our safety or accessibility. Moreover, let us reclaim our streets by placing emphasis on reducing speeding through better traffic law enforcement. It's crucial that alternatives, such as repositioning or removing unnecessary medians and re-evaluating the placement of future roundabouts, are considered.

By signing this petition, you join us in pressing our town officials to work closely with the Department of Transportation on alternatives that truly benefit residents rather than contributing to continuous chaos. Let's take action now to prioritize safety and make our roads more accessible for everyone in China Grove. Please sign this petition to show your support and demand change.
