The Issue

We, the undersigned, request that the current twice-an-hour 55 Grange to Stevenage bus service not be cut including current evening & weekend services.

The Grange Estate has only a single bus service to service all residents and is home to a number of sheltered housing communities, as well as many elderly & handicapped residents and working residents who rely on the service to access Letchworth town center, Jackies Dropin facility, Stevenage, local supermarkets, rail services and the Lister Hospital which is an essential destination for the many elderly & vulnerable residents who rely on this critical bus service for access.

This service is also used by pupils at Saint John Henry Newman Catholic School near Lister Hospital, staff at the Lister and retail workers in Letchworth & Stevenage.

We also request the re-instatement of a bus shelter to its former location outside the Old Post Office in Broadway.

The 55 bus is more than just a public service; it is our lifeline. It connects residents to essential services, education, employment, and healthcare facilities throughout the area.

Arriva's decision to implement these cuts, citing underuse, does not reflect the genuine needs of the community. It's crucial they reconsider and conduct a comprehensive impact assessment that involves community feedback. Public transportation is a social good, serving public interest, and its reduction or removal ought not to be determined solely by profitability.
