Stop CU Mining in Minnesota By: Olivia Muller & Jolie Osborne

The Issue

The Boundary Waters are a wilderness area in the Superior National Forest, located in northern Minnesota. The water here is some of the cleanest water in the United States; some local paddlers dip their cup straight into the water to drink. However, the Boundary Waters are being threatened by America's most toxic industry: mining. Heavy metal mining is known to pollute the environment. Copper mining as been proposed in the headwaters to the Boundary Waters. To reach the copper, the mining process will release chemicals and other pollutants. Pollution from CU mining in the headwaters of the Boundary Waters is projected to extensively damage downstream lakes, rivers, and groundwater. This will further damage the whole nearby community and environment in northern Minnesota. While you might live on the opposite side of the country, or across the globe, please sign this petition to STOP CU MINING IN MN! Why pollute some of the only clean waters left in the U.S.? Stoping this may be small and minute, but it's necessary to the start of improving the quality of our home: Earth.
