The Jeep Toledo facility, an iconic symbol of the American automotive industry, is tarnishing its reputation by engaging in horrendous acts of cruelty against nesting waterfowl and gulls. These innocent birds, who have chosen the facility grounds as a safe haven to nurture their young, are facing unnecessary and inhumane actions from employees, leading to their torture and death.  Witnesses report seeing employees heartlessly drive over young birds unable to fly and harm them fatally in other ways for close to ten years. As of July 2026 injured young birds who's parents were killed are being held hostage currently, despite requests to be taken in by local wildlife rehabilitation facilities. 

Nesting birds play a critical role in our ecosystem by controlling pest populations and contributing to the overall health of our environment. Destroying them not only disrupts this balance but also contravenes federal laws like the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which protects many of these species. It is crucial for businesses to coexist with local wildlife, respecting and protecting biodiversity.   In addition, this community benefits from bird watching which brings tourists from all over the world to Toledo, OH and injects over $40 million dollars annually into the economy.  

We call on Jeep and its parent company, Stellantis, to take immediate action. This should include implementing a clear and strict wildlife protection policy, training employees on proper and humane ways to handle wildlife encounters, and establishing protected zones within the facility to preserve these nesting sites. Furthermore, they should work in partnership with local wildlife rehabilitation and conservation groups to ensure these birds are safely cared for when necessary.

Investigations and accountability measures for employees involved in these acts are also essential to ensure such cruelty does not occur again. Highlight the inherent value of wildlife protection to company stakeholders and assure customers and the broader community that Jeep Toledo is committed to ethical and responsible practices.

The image and values of Jeep are under scrutiny, and it's time to align with the growing demand for corporate social responsibility.
