Stop Cruel Mass Removal of Delhi-NCR’s Community Dogs
The Issue
Dogs are humans' best friends, silent protectors, and wonderful life teachers. They play a vital role in our society, contribute to community protection, and hold significant cultural value. Despite their invaluable contributions, community dogs in the Delhi-NCR region face a terrible threat under the current order dated August 11, 2025. This order mandates the mass removal of stray dogs, a policy that overlooks both humane considerations and effective public safety measures.
Rather than promoting community health and safety, such a blunt approach disregards the essential services these dogs provide and poses ethical concerns regarding their treatment. The rightful steps toward public safety involve more humane practices aligned with global welfare standards, emphasizing both the community's well-being and the necessity of treating animals with dignity.
Rabies prevention and community health are crucial, and these objectives can be achieved without resorting to mass removal of community dogs. Effective measures should prioritize sterilization and anti-rabies vaccinations, strategies proven to control population growth and disease spread among stray dogs, thereby creating safe and harmonious environments for both humans and animals.
We call on the Supreme Court of India, the Animal Welfare Board of India, and the Governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh to revise this order. A modified policy should implement sterilization and vaccination programs, supported by community awareness campaigns that educate and involve local populations about the significance of coexistence with community dogs. This approach will foster a compassionate community effort, ensuring that safety and humane treatment go hand in hand.
Please sign this petition to support a humane and effective public safety plan that embraces community dogs as allies rather than adversaries. Together, we can ensure these beloved companions remain an integral part of our communities, safeguarding both human and canine lives alike.
