The Issue

Right now, government sharpshooters are firing on wild brumbies from helicopters inside Kosciuszko National Park, and the killing is set to continue through July 11. Thousands of these iconic horses are in the crosshairs. Filmmaker Ashley Avis recently documented the aftermath, including a dead Palomino stallion left behind after a shooting run. "The violence occurring in the Kosciuszko National Park...is unspeakable," says Avis, founder of the Wild Beauty Foundation.

The New South Wales government, led by Premier Chris Minns and Environment Minister Penny Sharpe, says the cull protects the park's ecosystem. But aerial shooting isn't the only option. Fertility control, relocation, and rehoming programs could manage brumby numbers without gunning down horses from the sky. Advocates say the current approach is cruel, imprecise, and unnecessary when humane alternatives already exist.

Every day this program continues, more brumbies die before July 11. Premier Minns and Minister Sharpe have the power to halt the aerial shooting now and commit to humane population control instead. Sign the petition today and demand they stop the killing before the deadline passes and more horses are lost.
