Stop Covenant Health from choosing profit for themselves over patients.
The Issue
Covenant Health has partnered with Air Methods, and local 911 centers have reportedly been directed to contact Covenant/Air Methods as the first-call air medical resource for emergency helicopter transports in our area. While we recognize the importance of strong healthcare partnerships and rapid emergency response, many residents and taxpayers are increasingly concerned about the financial impact this practice may have on local families. A large portion of families in this region carry AirMedCare Network memberships, which can significantly reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs when transported by participating providers. However, Air Methods is not part of the AirMedCare Network, meaning patients transported by these aircraft may face substantial medical bills despite already paying for emergency air medical coverage through their memberships. This petition asks our County Commissioners to review current dispatch and air medical transport practices, the conflict of interest with Claiborne EMS being Covenant Health, and require that AirMedCare Network participating aircraft be prioritized whenever medically appropriate and operationally available. This would help ensure that citizens receive the benefit of the coverage they already pay for while still maintaining high-quality emergency medical care. This petition is not about limiting patient care or criticizing individual flight crews, hospitals, or first responders. It is about advocating for transparency, patient choice, and protecting families from avoidable financial hardship during emergencies. By signing this petition, we ask county leadership to: • Consider the financial burden placed on local families by out-of-network transports • Require the county 911 service AND EMS who is contracted by this county to prioritize AirMedCare Network participating aircraft when clinically appropriate and available • Ensure emergency transport decisions are made in the best interest of both patient care and the community Our community deserves emergency medical transport policies that prioritize patient outcomes while also protecting families from unnecessary financial strain.
