The Issue

Hello, everyone. I'm reaching out to you for support on an issue that is threatening the livelihood of my business. I'm the owner of Lou's Salon, a beloved local establishment I've poured my heart and soul into. Recently, the local council has ordered me to take down the cladding frontage I installed during renovation, citing that I'm in a conservation area.

This decision has hit me hard. I've worked tirelessly to create a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment for my clients and myself. The cladding is not merely decorative; it is integral to the design and identity of my salon. The thought of having to remove it is distressing, both emotionally and financially.

What's even more frustrating is that the report used to enforce this action isn't entirely accurate. There have been inconsistencies and errors in the evaluation process, which have not taken into account the modern needs of small businesses like mine, striving to blend in with the historical beauty of our surroundings.

Maintaining heritage is important, and I respect that. However, it's crucial to balance tradition with progress, ensuring that small local businesses can co-exist and thrive without unnecessary obstacles. Countless other local enterprises might face similar fates if this approach isn't reconsidered.

I propose undertaking a review of the guidelines affecting conservation areas, ensuring they are clear and consider the practical realities we face today. Flexibility with such regulations would allow improvements that respect the area's character while supporting small businesses.

I am humbly asking for your support to convince the local council to reconsider their decision. Your signatures and support can make all the difference in sustaining my dream and the services I provide to our community.

Please sign this petition to ask the local council to stop the removal of my salon's cladding and work toward a balanced guideline for conservation areas.
