STOP COSTCO MAIN AND TRUCK ENTRANCE ONTO PLANTATION ROAD

STOP COSTCO MAIN AND TRUCK ENTRANCE ONTO PLANTATION ROAD
The Issue
As residents of Bonavie Cove, a quiet gated community off Plantation Road in Fort Myers, we are confronted with a pressing issue. A proposed site plan by international conglomerate Costco would place their main entrance and truck route entrance directly opposite of our main entrance to our peaceful neighborhood. During rush hours, the traffic on Plantation Road is already backed up from the traffic light on Colonial Boulevard well past our gate entrance. The road essentially serves as a shortcut from Daniels Parkway to Colonial Boulevard. Over 80% of Plantation is residential, offering sanctuary to families and older residents alike.
The addition of a truck entrance for Costco on this already congested street can only exacerbate traffic backups. Plantation Road, a home-friendly avenue saturated with families, now faces the potential threat of increased vehicle noise, exhaust pollution, and road safety issues due to frequent large truck movements.
We urge Lee County District 2 Commissioner Cecil Pendergrass and Lee County Transportation Director Robert Price to seriously consider the negative implications of this proposed site plan. Their role is to protect and serve the interests of their community and uphold the quality of life for their constituents.
The safety and tranquility of our residential neighborhood are at stake. Refuse Costco's initial proposal and recommend an alternate solution to move the main entrance to Metro Blvd that is 100% industrial and do not place an unnecessary burden on Plantation Road residents. We urge you to do the right thing and not approve the two access entrances to Plantation Road.
