Since 2012, nearly 19,000 Canadians have been caught in mass copyright infringement lawsuits — many targeted for a single alleged download. These lawsuits aren’t about protecting creators. They’re about profit.
A handful of film production companies, working with law firms like Aird & Berlis LLP, have filed lawsuit after lawsuit. They name hundreds or thousands of “John Does” in each case — and send intimidating settlement letters, often demanding $1,000–$4,000.
But most people settle for less, just to make it go away.
If even 30–50% paid an average of $500, these companies could have made $5 to $10 million — all without proving guilt in court.
⚠️ These lawsuits use:
Flimsy IP address data
Mass filings to overwhelm defendants
Threatening letters and tight deadlines
Settlements pushed through fear, not facts
And most people never even know their case was closed — no public notice, no resolution.

🔎 Why This Matters
I’m one of those 19,000.
I fought back. I even proved I didn’t do it.
They didn’t care.
I refused to pay their “settlement.” I filed a defense. And now I’m building tools, sharing resources, and exposing the truth.
Canadians deserve legal protection — not legal extortion.

🛠️ What I’m Doing Now
With your support, I’m:
Building a public database of these lawsuits and defendants
Creating DIY legal tools for those still stuck in open cases
Documenting every case, every tactic, every abuse
Pushing for real, enforceable reform in Canada
