Many people assume copyright infringement lawsuits like mine are rare. They’re not. In fact, what happened to me is part of a systemic pattern in Canada — where foreign media companies, using Canadian law firms, sue hundreds of everyday people under vague allegations. Most are pressured to settle without ever going to trial.
Since 2016, over 20 similar copyright infringement lawsuits have been filed in the Federal Court of Canada, targeting unnamed “John Doe” defendants. Here's the list:
