The Issue

I'm Donna Crosson, a longtime resident and former Township Auditor of West Nottingham Township. I'm deeply  concerned about Rutter's proposal to build a 13,000-square-foot Truck Stop at the intersection of Route 1 & 272.

While labeled as a "convenience store" their proposal includes:

  • 150 parking spaces, 83 designated for tractor trailers
  • Alcohol sales and gambling kiosks.

What the plan does not include is respect for local ordinances:

  • It lacks civic green space as mandated by township It lacks required civic green space as mandated by township code
  • Rutter plans to bypass this by paying an unspecified fee
  • There is insufficient landscaping per municipal guidelines
  • The site relies on well water and a leachfield septic system, effectively preventing public water and sewer from ever being extended to neighboring communities

If approved, this truck stop could:

  • Increase truck traffic, noise, and road hazards on Route 272
  • Raise the risk of crime, including drug activity and prostitution
  • Lead to higher taxes for added police and road maintenance
  • Lower property values across the township
  • Weaken zoning protections, paving the way for further reckless development
  • Permanently alter the character of our rural community

To be clear: I support reasonable development, but I strongly oppose a truck stop at this location.

Please add your name to let our Township Supervisors and Zoning Commission know we do not support this proposal as it stands.

We have limited time to speak out.
