Stop construction of a data center in Trenton, Ohio
Stop construction of a data center in Trenton, Ohio
The Issue
I moved to Trenton, Ohio 23 years ago, drawn by its charm as a small rural community with beautiful farmland, a tight-knit community, and a genuine small town atmosphere where I envisioned raising my children. Unfortunately, this tranquil setting is now under threat due to plans for constructing a data center, which could drastically alter the landscape and spirit of our beloved town.
The proposed data center would occupy large parcels of our precious land, imposing a significant burden on our natural resources. Data centers are notorious for their substantial energy consumption and cooling requirements, leading to increased noise pollution, often reaching levels as high as 60 decibels. Additionally, such facilities contribute to air pollution, deteriorating the quality of the air we breathe, and pose a threat to local wildlife, disrupting the delicate ecological balance we have cherished for so long.
Numerous studies have documented the environmental impact of data centers. According to the International Energy Agency, data centers are responsible for about 1% of the world's total electricity demand, a figure projected to grow. Locally, this means further strain on our energy infrastructure and more pollution.
The construction of a data center would not only erode the natural beauty of Trenton but also undermine the very essence of our community. The loss of farmland and open spaces would be irreversible, hindering our ability to enjoy our town as we have known and loved for decades.
We must advocate for alternative locations that do not jeopardize residential areas. Trenton's future should prioritize sustainable development and conservation of its natural charm. By voicing our concerns, we can urge planners and decision makers to reconsider this decision and focus on preserving our town's unique identity and heritage.
Please join me in preserving the beauty and tranquility of Trenton, Ohio. Sign this petition to stop the construction of the data center and protect our community from the irreversible impacts it threatens to bring.
