STOP Coffs Harbour Council renewing the operating license of the Arrawarra Holiday Park
The issue
The community of Little Arrawarra has been suffering for close to a decade due to the operations undertaken by the Arrawarra Holiday Park and Mojo Surf X. This tiny town with population of around 150 residents (one road in, one road out) is under immense daily stress and pressure from both a community and environmental stand point and we need your support.
- Residents are denied and granted access to the PUBLIC beach at the behest of the Arrawarra Holiday Park as there is currently no public access route.
- On a quiet day approx 37 buses/ heavy vehicles go in and out of the village starting at 5:45am daily, with properties rattling, engine noise, diesel fumes and dangerous driving the way residents start and finish each day. Our road surfaces are compromised with pot holes, property is damaged by flicking stones, dust coverage on homes and vehicles, and water / sewage issues due to the underground pipes unable to able to cope with the ongoing heavy vehicle usage on the roads.
- The Park, which is currently NOT operating as a holiday park despite being zoned as such is housing off shore fruit pickers in sub standard 'donger' style accommodation, with around 200 currently on site and another 200+ arriving in April/ May. The overall population of the town will increase by 62.5%^ when this happens! We do not have the infrastructure to support this influx of people, nor was the community informed this transaction had taken place.
- A Surf School and backpacker style accommodation is run in conjunction with the fruit pickers set up. There are no curfews enforced so residents deal with the late night parties, noise, fights, damage to private property, destruction of the beaches and water ways with rubbish, a stream of police call outs.
- Regarding our actual properties: "Rental income has been devalued" and "Sale value of the properties heavily impacted."
With the current lessees licence due to expire in August 2023 we are asking the Coffs Harbour City Council to STEP UP and support the villagers once and for all by terminating this lease permanently.
We just want our beautiful village to be restored, and we hope you can one day visit this paradise lost and experience what was once dubbed a 'jewel of the coast.'
