Stop CO2 Pipelines in Livingston and Nearby Parishes

Stop CO2 Pipelines in Livingston and Nearby Parishes
The Issue
I was born and raised in Livingston, and it breaks my heart to think about the long-term impact these proposed CO2 pipelines could have on our home, our land, and the generations to come. I’ve watched our community grow, families settle here, and neighbors look out for one another. The idea that all of that could be put at risk by a project that puts profit over people is devastating. We deserve to protect our families, our land, and our future.
These CO2 pipelines pose real dangers to our communities, swamplands, water, and environment. The current plans would run through Livingston, Ascension, St. James, and East Baton Rouge Parishes. That means our homes and neighborhoods could face the same hazards other areas have suffered when pipelines fail. A CO2 leak can push out oxygen and cause suffocation or other serious health problems. In our region, surrounded by fragile wetlands and waterways, even one accident could have devastating and lasting effects on both people and wildlife.
The risks are not just theoretical. In 2020, a CO2 pipeline in Mississippi ruptured and forced hundreds of residents to evacuate. Many were sent to the hospital with breathing problems. That incident showed exactly what can happen when these projects go wrong. Our Louisiana communities should never have to live with that kind of fear hanging over us.
We have so much worth protecting here. Our parishes are rich with natural beauty . . . swamps, bayous, and wildlife that are part of our identity and way of life. These pipelines threaten that delicate balance. They are being pushed forward without real transparency or concern for the people who will have to live with the consequences.
I’m calling on local leaders, parish councils, and state officials to stop the construction of these pipelines and to demand a full, public environmental review. We need honest answers and safe alternatives that do not endanger our communities or our future.
This is personal. It’s about more than a project on a map. It’s about our children, our health, and the place we call home. The decisions made today will shape the future for generations to come. Please join me in standing up for what matters most. Sign this petition to say no to CO2 pipelines in Livingston, Ascension, St. James, and East Baton Rouge Parishes, and help protect Louisiana’s land, water, and people for the future.
